Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is a service that enables international Visa®, MasterCard® and Diners Club® cardholders in over 80 currencies the choice to pay the bill in their own currency rather than the currency of the country that they are visiting.
We will manage the entire conversion process for you: from direct treasury exchange rates and transaction processing to back-end reconciliation, settlement, funding, and support.
Accepting DCC means the cardholder accepts today’s Elavon exchange rate, including commission and knows the final price at the time of purchase as it is displayed on the card machine and their receipt.
Declining DCC means the cardholder’s bank will convert the transaction at a later date using its exchange rate, plus commission and any other charges. The cardholder may not know this final amount until they see their statement.
Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is a service that enables international Visa® and MasterCard® and Diners Club® cardholders in over 80 currencies the choice to pay the bill in their own currency rather than the currency of the country that they are visiting.
When you present your card at the till, the point-of-sale recognises automatically if your debit or credit card from Visa®, MasterCard® or and Diners Club® qualifies for DCC. You will then be asked whether you want to pay in your home currency. The terminal converts the local currency to your home currency. The transaction is processed as usual and your receipt displays both currencies as well as the exchange rate. No additional foreign exchange commission charges apply.
Even crossborder payments can be seamless with Elavon. Our Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) service gives your international customers the option to pay in their home currency if using a Visa, Mastercard or Diners Club card.

See
You can show your customers their sale in both currency amounts so they can clearly compare the two options.
Know
Your customers can be certain of the final amount they will pay in their own currency and that will appear on their card statement.
Lock in
The transaction is completed using the latest available exchange rate, including mark-up, and will not change.
DCC enabled terminals automatically identify internationally issued Visa, Mastercard and Diners cards making it easy for you to guide your customer through the payment process.
You can show your customers their sale in both currency amounts so they can clearly compare the two options. Latest regulations require transactions made with a European Economic Area (EEA) or *UK issued card, with an EEA-based business to now express the mark-up fee as a % over the European Central Bank (ECB) latest available euro foreign exchange reference rate(s). Non-EEA issued cards are not affected and continue to display the DCC mark-up as a fixed %.
* Note: UK (Brexit) legislation maintained the Cross Border Payment Regulation hence applies the same DCC rules outlined above as all EEA countries.
Here’s the key information you need to share with your customer so that they can make an informed decision about accepting DCC:
If your customer opts-in to DCC the transaction is immediately converted, locking in Elavon’s latest exchange rate including commission. The final price they see on the receipt is what will appear on their statement:
Motivate your team
We can support your staff training to ensure they understand the benefits of DCC and feel confident offering it to your customers in a compliant way.
Monitor DCC activity

The receipt will show the amount in your currency, the customer's home currency and the conversion rate.
Customers will know exactly what they're paying for at the time of sale including all charges so that they'll see the same amount on their card statement when they get home.

You provide your international customers with an extra service as they can pay in their own home currency. In addition, you gain additional sales potential and even increase profitability as Elavon will rebate a share of the conversion rate to you. DCC doesn’t carry any additional activation fees or monthly minimums. Elavon’s DCC service is transparent and effortless as Elavon handles the entire DCC process from start to finish which means that you have a single point of contact for all your service needs. Furthermore you may reduce chargebacks and disputes as there are no more exchange rate surprises for your customers when they receive the credit card statement.
If you pay in a foreign currency, you will always have to pay exchange rates. DCC provides full disclosure of the exchange rate which allows you to assess the competitiveness of the rate at the point-of-sale; which is more information than credit card issuers provide.
Dynamic Currency Conversion service offers the convenience and certainty of paying in your own currency with the added benefit of Elavon Best Rate.
Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) from Elavon offers the convenience and certainty of paying in your own currency with the added benefit of an exchange rate guarantee. Elavon’s DCC service enables you (international Visa and MasterCard cardholders) to pay for goods and services in your home currency at the point of sale, allowing you to see the true cost of the transaction at the time of purchase rather than when your card statement arrives.
Elavon aims to provide competitive exchange rates comparable with rates offered by card issuers. DCC provides full disclosure of the cost of the transaction in the local currency, in your home currency and the exchange rate. This information allows you to assess the competitiveness of the rate at the point-of-sale.
If you pay in your currency with DCC at the point-of-sale and when you get your card statement, you find that you would have received a better exchange rate (including fees) on the same card, on the same date, from your card issuer – you can claim the difference from Elavon. Elavon will pay you directly onto your card the difference between the amount you were charged at the Elavon customer and the amount you would have been charged by your card issuer. For details, please see DCC Best Rate Terms and Conditions.
