From 1^st April 2025, Visa will update the domestic currency code for Curaçao and Sint Maarten. The currency will change from ANG/532 (Netherlands Antilles Guilder) to XCG/532 (Caribbean Guilder) while the numeric code remains the same. This change follows the Central Bank of Curacao and Sint Maarten’s decision to transition to the new currency.

Visa: From 11th April 2025, Visa will introduce two new authorization response codes.

• 5C (Transaction not supported/blocked by issuer)
• 9G (Blocked by cardholder/contact cardholder).

UnionPay: Starting 15^th February 2025, UnionPay will enforce a new transaction limit rule. If an institution transaction volume over seven days exceeds the risk reserve deposit they have placed, transactions may be restricted. Institutions must ensure their RRD meets the required amount specified in UPI’s warning letter. UPI will introduce a new response code N2 to indicate when a transaction is rejected.

Visa Flexible Credential offers cardholders a solution to switch between debit, credit and other card types all under the issuance of a single bank and a single card. This effectively means that a single card number could be either a credit or debit product code and used interchangeably as selected by cardholder.
 

Visa is making changes to the Visa Flexible Credential (VFC) service to expand the VFC service in certain countries in the AP, CEMEA, and Europe regions. Visa is introducing additional options for issuer participation in VFC in the U.S. region.

Starting 3rd June 2025, Mastercard is enhancing security by limiting the exposure of the cardholder's PAN in tokenised transactions. Elavon has updated systems to process tokenised transactions with only the last four digits of the PAN. The Payment Account Reference (PAR) should be used for linking tokenised accounts.

Starting 3^rd June 2025, Mastercard is introducing two new decline response codes to help track closed and inactive accounts more effectively.

• 46 - Closed Account
• 72 - Account Not Yet Activated

This helps distinguish between permanent declines (closed accounts) and temporary declines (inactive accounts).

Mastercard will reject all clearing requests that do not have a matching approved authorization request. This will impact unauthorized, forced transactions bringing significant impact to Elavon customers. All merchant categories, with the exception of airlines and aggregated transport, are in scope of this change, customers are advised to ensure an authorisation is obtained from the card issuer before a transaction is sent to clearing.
